Aide to former president John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari has lamented on the inconsistencies that have heralded the construction of the National Cathedral, from the first announcement.

She says Ghanaians have been “misled by the President that, and key actors including the Secretariat of the Cathedral itself, that no public funds will be expended on this project”

She explains that aside the value of the 14 acres of prime state lands earmarked for the project and the cost of equally prime properties demolished to make way for this project, an excess of 399 million cedis of tax payers money has been spent on the project.

Madam Mogtari relays questions to the president and finance minister about:

1. Who sanctioned the alleged transfers from the CAGD to the National Cathedral Secretariat?

2. Does the National Cathedral have the capacity to bind the state and use the state as a guarantor for accessing loans?

3. As an incorporated company of a private character, why must the state continue to allocate huge sums of tax payers money to the secretariat?

She stated that the “recent revelation about taking unsecured loans and committing the State to the said payment is yet another example of the numerous revelations on the wastage and burden the National cathedral has put on our already fragile finances as a state in this era of unprecedented hardship and financial crisis orchestrated by this government”

She says the economic salvation of the good people of this countr must be prioritised.

“We do not require a cathedral built on lies and propaganda. Ghanaians love God, Ghanaians long for a transparent and accountable system of government and a well managed economy”
