We can’t be intimidated – General Mosquito

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the party will not be cowed to curl from their fight against political violence, following the sporadic shooting at the Kumasi headquarters of the party.

He said the NDC would not shield anybody the police would pick up for the heinous crime, consequently, the reason the party had reported the matter to the law enforcement agency to go after the suspects.

That the police had identified the suspects as members of the NDC’s vigilante group, the Hawks, was a fine lead for the police to track the suspects, especially when the police had given out the identity of the suspects.

He was emphatic that he did not see the perpetrators because he and some Ashanti Regional and National Executives Committee were held up in a closed-door meeting in Kumasi on Monday February 18, 2019, when somebody banged on their door to inform them of the shooting in another room.

“By the time we came out, the victims were being dashed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and so, I called the Ashanti Regional Police Commander to report the incident to him.

“The party leadership, quickly, rushed to the hospital to see the injured and deceased,” he narrated.

The NDC, he stated, trust the police who, by their intelligence, gathered the names of the suspects as Husein Barnabas, aka Warrior, Damos, Mijima and Abu Taliban, all alleged members of the Hawks, a pro-NDC vigilante group.

The NDC scribe admitted that the Monday incident would give the party bad press, especially when rumours had been rife that the suspects were their pro vigilante group.

“But we do not care whether the perpetrators belong to the Hawks, Vultures or Eagles, we will not interfere in the work of the police. We want to hunt for them and prosecute them to dance to their own music,” he concluded.
