W/R: Takoradi woman now a suspect; 3 arrested over alleged ‘fake kidnapping and pregnancy’

Police investigations suggest that Josephine Panyin Mensah, the said pregnant woman who was allegedly kidnapped in Takoradi about two weeks ago may have conspired with other persons over her disappearance.

A statement signed by the Acting Director-General of the Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, said three persons have so far been arrested for further questioning on possible conspiracy charges.

The release also stated that “The victim, now a suspect, during her interrogation mentioned the European Hospital in Takoradi as the hospital for her antenatal reviews and assessment”.

“Medical records at the facility suggest that the lady visited the hospital without pregnancy somewhere in October last year,” the statement added.

On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, there was news that Josephine had been found in Axim, but without a baby bump which according to eyewitnesses, she insisted had been taken by her kidnappers.

She was thereon admitted at the Axim Government Hospital, but the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah shockingly said the claim of pregnancy and kidnapping by the woman was false.

However, the woman’s husband and some residents maintained that she was pregnant, leaving many with mixed feelings about the situation.

Meanwhile, the police says a team with support from National Headquarters has been put together to quell this emerging crime in Western Region.
