Vovoli TV is set to unearth hiding issues tonight and beyond with a new show dubbed, ‘The Watchman’.
The first edition, which premieres tonight, Sunday, September 5, at 8:00pm, is aimed at captivating viewers with intriguing expert opinions on Ghana and IMF relationships dating back to the 1980s. The show was slated to be aired on Wednesday, September 1 but couldn’t come off due to a technical hurdle.
It will be recalled that Ghana went to International Monetary Fund for US$1billion last year and another US$1billion last week for economic stability.
With the early edition, the Dean of the University of Cape Coast School of Business, Prof. John Gatsi, sets the record straight on the theme, “Is Ghana Back to IMF”?.
According to him the former President Kufour-led NPP government’s decision to go to the World Bank and IMF for the HIPC Programme in 2001 cannot be blamed on their predecessors.
He further said that the current NPP administration led by President Akufo-Addo cannot deny that they are not receiving any support from the IMF.
Stressing that, the Nana Addo-led government has not gone back to the IMF to seek some financial bailout when the Covid-19 struck Ghana and the globe, is a naked lie.
Prof Gatsi was emphatic that Ghana’s Finance Minister applied for a US$1 billion to spend on the COVID-19.
“The Minister cannot deny that he did not submit documents to the IMF, stating reasons he thinks Ghana qualifies for that bailout.
“This is no secret this government can hide from us. It’s not bad going to the IMF but when you vilify your predecessor for going to the same institution for assistance, claiming that you are better managers of the economy and so you will never go to IMF, you dent your integrity,” he added.
He disclosed the IMF gave Ghana US$1 billion and it would audit the country on its expended money.
The economist made these revelations in an interview on ‘The Watchman Show’ on Vovoli TV hosted by Efo Korsi Senyo.
The full interview will be aired on Facebook and YouTube.
Don’t miss it.
