The Volta Regional Women’s Working Committee, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is in the state of mourning following the death of one of the greatest freedom fighters in our recent history, Winnie Madikizela Mandela

Winnie Mandela, the Ex-wife of Nelson Mandela, one of the pillars of the struggle against racism in South Africa, passed away after a long iillness.

The work of Winnie Mandela in the struggle against white minority rule in South Africa is remarkable and a great motivation to women around, especially in the developing countries.

The Women’s Working Committee, has a lot to learn from the work of Winnie Mandela, in the struggle to emancipate women from poverty and deprivation.

Winnie Mandela, stood strong, as a voice for the oppressed people, when most men fear to speak out openly against racism during the period of the apartheid regime

She made available her resources, expertise, time and energy at the disposal of the African National Congress, during the most difficult period in the history of South Africa.

Winnie Mandela, sacrificed her personal comfort and happiness for the welfare of all South Africans, especially the majority blacks who were oppressed

SOWETO UPRISING
The anti apartheid campaigner played a key role in the 1976 Soweto students uprising, when students in black schools took to the street, in opposition to the decree by the white minority government, forcing all black schools to use Africans and English as languages of instruction.

As a veteran of the struggle to emancipate the black people, she developed a reputation as an uncompromising opponent of the regime in Pretoria.

Born in a village in Bizana, a town in Transkei, now known as Eastern Cape, on September 26, 1936, Winnie Mandela was elected as the President of the African National Congress Women’s League Winnie Mandela joined Parliament in a later, as a deputy Minister of Arts and Culture.

The Volta Regional Women’s Working Committee, is inspired by the dedication and the passion of Winnie Mandela, to work very hard to win power in 2020, to bring hope, peace and prosperity to all Ghanaians
The Committee extends total sympathy to the immediate family, the ANC, and all South Africans for the loss.
