Volleyball: Ghana, Benin engage in friendlies

Benin’s Ministry of Finance volleyball team has ended their three day international friendlies with Ghanaian clubs in Accra.

Although they could not win any of their matches played, the technical bench of the team said they were satisfied with their team’s performance and would work to improve on the challenges identified.

They played their first game against the Reformers from the Ghana Prisons Service at the Prisons Sports Complex and lost by 0-5 (18-25, 10-25, 20-25, 21-25, 21-25).

The team then played against the Blue Sharks from the Ghana Navy at the Lebanon House. The two teams were of the same standard and capability. Therefore victory for either of them could not be predicted.

They entertained the spectators with very aggressive and effective inter positional changes and precision which drew a lot of applauds from the teaming crowd.

At the end of proceedings, Blue Sharks carried the day with a very close 3-2 score line (26-24, 27-29, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-12).

The last and final match of the visiting team took place at the Ghana Police Volleyball Club home ground at the Tesano Training School.

The star studded Police side made light work on the visitors by parading their newly recruited players who have passed out of training a couple of weeks ago.

This match also gave them the opportunity to put into play players who in the past have not had the opportunity to play in their regular league matches.

The show of marksmanship and beautiful court play was at its best, with the Police team dominating proceedings. The visitors also lifted their game up occasionally.

The Police team finally won 5-0. By this result the visitors at the end of proceedings won two out of the15 sets they were engaged in.

The three match training tour of Accra was to help them sharpen their reflexes and improve on performance during their national club championship which is starting this weekend.

It should also be noted that the Ministry of Finance Volleyball Club is the winner of their 2017 league season.

In another development TCL, Elwak Wings and Veterans Volleyball clubs all from Accra have joined four clubs in Ho for a Volleyball competition which is currently ongoing.
