The deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, Amos Blessing Amorse has lashed out at broadcast journalist, Afia Pokua aka Vim Lady, describing her as ‘notorious empty barrel’
According to the vociferous youth leader, Vim Lady has over the years seen herself as an intelligent journalist, “but honestly, she comes across as one of the shallow journalists we have in this country. I admire journalists who run commentary on issues of national interest and sometimes share their opinions put out cogent arguments but the ones that journalists like her (Vim Lady) type do in this country are ordinary noise without substance.”
“These are people who think when you shout and make highfalutin comments on radio, then you’re intelligent and must be listened to. Everybody in this country know that we do not file our taxes at NDC headquarters neither do we pay taxes to NDC…so if NDC is asking government to procure more testing kits than the number it announced and you turn round to tell the one demanding judicious use of your taxes that he should supply Ghana with more kits if the ones government has procured is not enough, then, I’m sorry, you’re high on something hazardous. Part of our job as Ghanaians is to demand from those we pay our taxes to, profitable use of our taxes. The number of cases in Ghana keep increasing everyday so if we tell government to increase the number of testing kits and you’re a journalist and you do not see the wisdom in this demand, then you’re reasoning is a suspect” Mr Amorse explained
Madam Afia Pokua had challenge the opposition NDC to procure more test kits for the country if they are dissatisfied with what was announced by the President.
The journalist wondered why the NDC cannot also in their accord and love for Ghanaians procure some for the country.
“50,000 corona kits not enough-NDC Me: Can NDC give Ghana more please?” she quizzed.
She was reacting to comments by Chairman of NDC’s COVID-19 Technical Team, Prosper Bani that the 50,000 testing kits for the novel coronavirus by government is not enough.
But Mr Amorse, in a no hold bar response to the vociferous broadcaster said “if Vim Lady made the request because of her love for Ghanaians, then she should equally tell Kwame Despite to also buy testing kits for Ghanaians. She should not wait for Kwame Despite to say what government has procured is not enough. Making unprofitable noise is not what Ghanaians desire at this moment.”
He explained that “the NDC, as part of it’s support to help stop the spread of the disease, constituted a team of experts to assist government. Part of the expert’s job is to advice government on what to do…so if the experts are saying the testing kits are not enough and that government should procure more, what offense has the NDC committed?”
