Venture into agriculture to feed Ghanaians – Dr. Sodoke tells youths

The District Chief Executive of the Akatsi North District Assembly, Hon. Dr. Prince Sodoke Amuzu has asked youths within the district to venture into agriculture in other to increase food production in view of achieving government’s ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’.

Marking the 34th National Farmer’s Day celebration on the theme “Agriculture: Moving Ghana Beyond Aid” at Kpeduhoe on Friday, Dr. Sodoke took the opportunity to congratulate farmers within the district and asked them to put in efforts to increase food production.

He added that his government is committed to championing the Ghana Beyond Aid policy, hence youths in the area must take advantage of the policy and other agriculture policies that will subsequently be enrolled in 2019.

“Today marks 34th National Farmer’s Day celebration in Akatsi North District and I want to use this opportunity to wish all farmers a happy celebration. I am glad to inform you that one of our farmers selected for the 34th district awards is a youth who just entered into farming. This shows that in the Akatsi North District, with a little bit more effort, we can make the vision of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo a reality.”

“I want to use this opportunity to encourage our youths to take advantage of the Planting for Food and Jobs, and the ‘Rearing for Food and Jobs; a livestock model that will lauched in 2019 with the objective of increasing the production of selected livestock across the country”. he added

Jackwin Junior Quofi, overall district best farmer

A 34-year old Jackwin Junior Quofi, was adjudged the overall district best farmer. He went home with an Apsonic tricycle, 2 Knapsack spraying machines, 5 machetes, an MP player and 2 pairs Wellington boots.

The DCE also revealed that communities like Bame, Kpegbadza and Atiglime will benefit from the over 500 small dams to be constructed under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) in 2019.
