V/R: Heavy downpour ravaged structures in Ho

The rain storm destroys thousands of properties in Ho

The downpour started Thursday evening around 5:30pm, and lasted for close to 2hours after several weeks without rain. Residents were joyful over the rain, but it came at a cost as the rain brought down some structures of residents of Fiave and some areas around Tsyikpota.

At Tsyikpota, a house near the offices of Afe Lotto was greatly damaged [ads1]and the fence wall brought down.

Mr. John Aklamanu, who spoke to Awake news’ Abdul-Iddrisu Faisal, was livid at how residents put up structures without permission from the city authorities.

“Look, we are the cause of our own problems. People think they have money so when they want to build, they don’t do the necessary things. They build on waterways anyhow; but as for water, it creates path when there is none”.

Mr. Aklamanu added that the drains (gutter) along that stretch is choked with refuse, making it difficult for the water to drain well, hence the water overflowed the street and affected the walls.

According to Mr. Aklamanu, he is wary of a possible cholera outbreak since the gutters in the area are filled with refuse by the residents.

At Fiave, the fence wall around Mr. Sulaiman’s house (a resident) has been destroyed totally.

By the early mornings of Friday, many residents were seen packing cement blocks taken away by the rain and other belongings.
