The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Krowor Constituency, Greater Accra Region, has observed that the peace of a country is fragile when poverty, hunger and unemployment are rife.
Owing to these, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey says a huge burden rests on persons in higher positions and the affluent to create employment avenues for the increasing unemployed youth who are always regarded as the future leaders of Ghana.
She, consequently, expressed the fear that the longer the persons with the ability to lessen the hardships among the youth take measures to arrest their economic worries, the angrier the youth become to spark actions that can tear the peace and development of the country apart.
“It is not scary anymore, so those of us who can help in our own little way must reach out to those who need us to live some decent life,” Agnes Naa Momo encouraged the generous in the society at the Accra International Conference Center where she was honoured as a Peace Ambassador by the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD)-Ghana.
Humbled by the honour done her, the MP said she received the portfolio as another responsibility on her shoulder to work harder to alleviate the poverty, hunger and unemployment in her constituency and even beyond to sustain the peace and development of Ghana.
“I will work hard to merit this honour IAPD has done me today,” she said.
What is IAPD?
At the conclusion of the 2017 Interreligious Leadership Conference on November 13, 2017, more than 400 delegates including leaders of religious organisations and faith-based groups, parliamentarians, academics and other leaders, representing more than 60 nations, unanimously resolved to form the IAPD as a new international association of religious leaders dedicated to bringing world peace.
In 2018, the IAPD expanded and developed as a project by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), to uniquely position religious leaders and faith-based organisations to influence thinking, mobilise moral authority and be role models for others to follow.
They are to help raise awareness, as well as give moral guidance by bringing together the different faiths and working together for the common good.
IAPD stands at the forefront of a revolution of the culture of heart and filial love, and help usher in a world of lasting peace and happiness.
