A boat carrying about eleven people traveling from Mawuvi Kofe to Dzagbeshi Kofe capsized on the Oti River on Sunday 4th Fabruary, 2018 when they were returning from church service at Dzagbeshi Kofe in the Krachi East Municipal of Volta Region.
[ads1]The Municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) boss, Mr. Dasievor Jacob who confirmed the news to Awake News’ Christiana Ativi said they were able to retrieve all the nine dead bodies from the river namely, Joyce Atali 16 years, Bensah Atali 21 years, Edward Atali 18 years, Dormenyo Atali 2 years, Amedzuwoe Akor 22 years.
The rest were Lucy Tsatsu 19 years, Xolali Tsatsu 18 years, Mkpebi Maabo 30 years and Adwoa Mkpebu 19 years.
According to one of the victims who survived the accident told Awake News that the incident occurred few minutes after 2pm on Sunday when the windstorm became incensed and carried away their canoe till it finally hit a stand in the river resulting into the death of the nine dead passengers.
Mr Dasievor therefore, advised the general public especially those crossing the river to always put on their life jacket and also avoid overloading.
He added that, the bodies had been sent to Worawora government hospital morgue awaiting an autopsy.
