The threatening and brutality nature of some Military personnel is getting out of hand which have the tendercy to jeopardize with it credibility and confidence repose in it by Ghanaians.

The military, in few months came into the media for a bad reason where military personnel were attack and assaulted by residents over a land dispute at Oboum Domeabra.

Residents of Manhean in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region are calling on the Minister of Defense and the Commander In-Chief of the Ghana Arm Forces to as a matter of urgency call one Major Kwame Ofori to order as he and some military personnel are terrorizing them over building on road in the area.

According to the residents, they peacefully confronted the Military major and advised him to follow pillar which have been demacated to avoid building on the road which he accepted to abide by the residents advise.

However, the Major Kwame Ofori according to the residents on Saturday, October 17, on a parcel of land where he is building on a road brought about six soldiers in uniform to protect him to extend his building to the road.

The residents revealed that Major Kwame Ofori was stopped by the residents for extending his building into the road last year, ‘our fear is that if care is not taken to stop him our houses will be demolished pave way for drains and road.

This the fear the major may use his influence to prevent his house from demolition when ever there is a development in the area hence their call on the defense Minister to intervine.

They added that Major Kwame Ofori resurfaced with soldiers using his status as a military officer to intimidate the people by building on the road without permit from the Ga West Municipal Assembly.

They believe Major Kwame Ofori has since thrown the military’s rules of engagement and the law to the dogs and has resorted to using personnel of the service who invariably storm the land in a Rambo style and unleash brutalities on the residents for stopping his project.

‘We discovered that Major Kwame Ofori’s claim to have been given a permit by the Ga West Municipal Assembly to extend the building into the road is false” they noted.

According to an eye witness, the Chief of Manhean, Nii Ayi Kotor sent an elder to stop Major Kwame Ofori and his workers from working and demand the major to see him at the Palace which he refused to honor the Chief’s invitation rather wend ahead to work on the site.

The residents further revealed that, the soldiers threatened to deal ruthlessly with the residents should they dare come to the site again.

However, Major Kwame Ofori in a telephone conversation explained that he owns the land and he was only erecting a fifth pillar.

Whilst admitting that the land belongs to him, he also confirmed sending the military personnel to the land after realizing that the people were stopping him from developing the land adding that he gave the personnel a clear instruction not to assault anybody.

Major Kwame Ofori when asked why he was not doing the right thing by building on an area earmarked for road as a military officer, he called bluff the media saying “you can publish anything we don’t care and he hanged the line to the chagrin of the Journalist.

When this reporter contacted the Ga West Municipal Engineer, Eric Jimifoster Donkor for their side of the issue, he denied giving permit to Major Kwame Ofori for the building and sending the Assembly’s Taskforce to the place claiming that Major Kwame Ofori the taskforce were there and didn’t stop him because he had a working permit.

He also admitted that he has no knowledge of a building being built on the road saying he will send his taskforce to the place to get first hand information of the development.
