Leader of the Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah has stated that the youth revolution that the movement is leading is about lives. He made this remark when he addressed audience at this year’s Founder’s Day seminar organised by the African Youth Improvement Foundation.
The event was held yesterday, 21st September 2019, in commemoration of the 110th birthday of Kwame Nkrumah, the Founder and first president of the Republic of Ghana on the theme, “Reinforced Neo-colonialism – the imperative of African unity”. It attracted a large audience of mainly young people and students, Pan-Africanists and progressives. Other speakers included Dr. Yao Graham of the Third World Network and Mr. Albie Walls of the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party.
Speaking on the need for change, Ernesto Yeboah recalled an incident at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where a doctor took off an oxygen mask from a baby because the parents could not afford to pay the bills. The child died as a result. The Ghana Health Service promised an investigation, but nothing has been heard of it since it happened in April 2018.
“The revolution is not an isolated space. The revolution is about us, and young people should realise that we have a great stake in that future and that future is the unity and liberation of our Continent”, he charged. Using Kwesi Prat Jnr and Abdul Malik Kweku Baako as examples, Ernesto Yeboah decried how certain individuals pretend to be Nkrumaists but only use the tag to advance their own personal gains. He said given the tiresome work that is being done, it was unacceptable for some people to be allowed to privatise the people’s revolution because, “the revolution is about lives”.
21st September which is the birth day of Osagyeko Kwame Nkrumah is recognised worldwide as a truly important day and is celebrated in Ghana as Founder’s Day in honour of his towering effort in founding the modern state of Ghana. There have been efforts by the current NPP government to downplay this day including recognizing August 4 as founders day. But despite these efforts, Nkrumaists remain steadfast in using the day to discuss the ideas of Kwame Nkrumah and strategise on how to implement them for the emancipation of the common man.
