THE HYPOCRISY OF Bernard Avle and Citi 97.3 FM

A master’s masterpiece by one EL Citizen Vigilante worth sharing:

From the day Radio Gold was shut down by the Akufo Addo govt, Citi FM became my favorite Radio Station because of Bernard Avle. He appears very intelligent, articulate, analytical and concerned about the interest of Ghana. I become addicted to Citi CBS, Point of View and Eye Witness News.

Sometimes when I hear Bernard and his team discuss some of the things I’ve been making noise about on social media on their show, I feel good. Observing him from afar, I noticed his a good Christian, and probably occupying a position in his church. His posture and mindset made me like him so much.

However, my friend Avumokolo Metufeo advised me time without number to stop listening to them because they’re in bed with NPP. He told me that Citi FM and Citi TV are the English version of Oman FM and Net2 TV but I ignored him. He must come for his stone. I owe him an apology.

Speaking at a public lecture in Nov 2018 on the theme: “Rethinking the national conversation,” Barnard Avle chided Christians and religious ‘fanatics’ for failing to play active roles in the development of Ghana as a result of misguided interests and fear of victimization.

He said: “The church today seems to be imprisoned. The message of prosperity has taken over and eclipsed the message of sufficiency and simplicity. We are clapping our hands and shooting the devil, while our minds are still enslaved by the chains of greed and selfishness.

We have elevated the place of miracles, signs and wonders and neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice, faith and mercy. We have exalted the place of money and prosperity at the expense of morals and principles.”

‘We’ve built fanatical followers of church brands; not Christians’ – Bernard Avle

Like Carl Gustav Jung said, ‘you are what you do, not what you say you are.’ Fast forward to the 2020 election, Bernard has failed to reflect the very values he so eloquently expressed in his 2018 speech. He became a victim of misguided interest and fear of victimization. He chose money, prosperity and instant gratification over morals, principles and long term good of Ghana.

Bernard is the General Manager of Citi FM, and as we all know, Citi FM is one of the stations that churned out cooked figures to subvert the will of Ghanaians. Bernard had close to 400 reporters on the ground on election day but was not able to put out a single report to expose the evil that marked the election like he did during the Ayawaso By-election.

Five unarmed citizens were shot dead by thugs deployed by govt with several others severely injured, but Bernard and his team were quiet over this until Akufo Addo was declared winner. They were busily projecting victory for Akufo Addo with cooked figures. Citi FM’s final projected figures were in sync with EC’s final figures at the point of declaration. EC’s figures have since been amended about 5 times. So how did Citi FM arrived at those figures? (pictures attached)

Citi FM knew there were problems with the collation of the results. They heard the NDC raised concerns about the situation time without number, but they were determined to contribute to the rigging agenda of Akufo Addo. They put their stomach and the interest of NPP above the interest of Ghana. Is this not the same attitude Bernard condemned in his 2018 lecture? Is it not clear that Bernard’s own mind is enslaved by the chains of greed and selfishness?

How can this attitude and mindset contribute to Ghana’s development? How can a person who believes in the next generation and not the next election gloss over such gross injustice and lawlessness? I’ve heard him quote the bible severally on his show. Well, James 4:17 said: “Whoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”

Bernard is not what he claims he is. He is a hypocrite – such an accomplished hypocrite…!
