The future is difficult, but you offered us hope – Goosie Tanoh to NDC MPs

Goosie Tanoh, an aspirant in the NDC flagbearer contest has commended the NDC caucus of the 8th parliament and expressed his delight at their actions that culminated into the election of a member from their side as speaker.

According to him, Injustice invites violence and anarchy hence admonished all to be guided by the sober lessons of history and act at all times in the people’s interest and not sectarian disruptive agendas.

Goosie took to his Facebook handle on January 7, 2021 and wrote, “congratulations to NDC caucus for holding the line so magnificently against the dishonesty and brazen intimidation deployed by the State to secure undeserved control of Parliament. It is no exaggeration to say that your resistance last night has gone a long way to halt impunity and disregard for the ethos of cooperation embedded in the constitution of the 4th Republic. It is one more blow against the temptation to tyranny and lawlessness”.

It will be recalled that some armed military personnel were sent to the Floor of the chamber of the house in an attempt to restore calm and order when the MPs decided to disrupt the election of the Speaker as the clerk was not complying to the ‘secret ballot’ requirement of the constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament.

“We all witnessed the shameful chaos and confusion at what should have been a peaceful and orderly conduct of parliamentary business to elect a new speaker. Injustice invites violence and anarchy. Let us all be guided by the sober lessons of history and act at all times in the people’s interest and not sectarian disruptive agendas, he noted.

He cautioned the ruling New Patriotic Party to “reflect on last night and the fact that these intimidatory tactics were applied as much against them as they were against the NDC caucus. We hope that all will ponder the dangerous significance of armed troops confronting Parliamentarians in the People’s House”.

Mr. Tanoh also applauded Rt. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin for being elected as the speaker of parliament.

“Lastly, I extend my warm and truly heartfelt Congratulations to Rt Hon. ASK Bagbin on his election to the office of speaker. I cannot think of a better prepared or temperamentally more appropriate candidate for this position at this challenging point in our democratic journey. I am confident that the wisdom, skill, and speed with which a consensus on a dignified and representative senior leadership for the House was arrived at on his assumption of office is an indication of what to expect going forward – openness, fairness, firmness and a constant focus on the institutional and national interest”.

He stressed “The future is difficult, but you have offered us all reason for hope”.
