Tema West Youth open petition book for removal of Carlos Ahenkorah as MP

The Member of Parliament(MP) for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah, is in hot soup for ‘gross misconduct amid the inauguration of the 8th Parliament on Friday, January 7, 2021.

Some concerned youth in his constituency are dismayed about his behavior in Parliament hence calling for his removal as their legislator.

The Concerned Tema West Youth electorates on Monday, January 11, 2021 opened a petition book to compile signatures from different areas in the constituency to add to their petition before submitting to Parliament.

In a statement sighted by the Awake News, the group said, it has opened books at various locations within the constituency, inviting all residents to append their signatures.

The petition book will be available from January 11 to January 13, 2021.

Mr. Ahenkorah snatched ballot papers in the chamber of parliament during the election of a speaker on January 7, 2021.

The group had earlier called for punitive punishment for Carlos Ahenkorah for attempting to mar the election of the Speaker of the 8th Parliament by snatching uncounted ballot papers and bolting away with them after realizing his side had lost the speaker position.

The MP was chased and overpowered by the NDC member of parliament for Asewase, Muntaka Mubarak who threw punches at him while his party members and the marshals of parliament rushed to his aid.

Meanwhile, the Tema West MP has apologised for his actions.

The former deputy Trade and Industry Minister in a statement revealed he is heartbroken for the turnout of events on the day.

“I did it for the grassroots who relied on us in power to survive, the president who needs some peace to run the country, and the greater NPP party as a whole because we cannot always allow the NDC to threaten and vilify us. I apologize though to my family and friends both far and near who may be affected by my actions. The NPP in me couldn’t be controlled. I apologize but I tried!!!”.
