Tema GRA goes on tax outreach

The Tema office of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has reached out to the general taxpaying public to educate them on the need to pay their taxes.

The public education and sensitisation formed part of the GRA’s collaboration with the Ministry of Finance to get the general public to understand that paying taxes and filing returns are their civic responsibilities.

Additionally, the outreach was aimed at getting new taxpayers roped in to widen the tax net for more revenue to carry out infrastructural projects.

Eugenia Manful, Assistant Commissioner and Office Manager, Tema Medium Taxpayers’ Office, led her staff on the outreach programme at Community 11, Tema, where the general public thronged the venue to learn more about the need to pay taxes and file tax returns.

Tax Clinics had been mounted nationwide for similar projects and, Mrs Manful said the collaboration between the GRA and Ministry of Finance was laudable especially when the government has a vision of developing the country beyond aid.

Her outfit targeted income earners in the informal sector, most of whom are not in the tax bracket.

Eugenia Manful expressed satisfaction at the rate at which more people visited the Tema GRA office to register for the Tax Identification Number (TIN).

She believed that the series of sensitisation programmes her outfit had embarked on were paying off, and she expressed the same belief that the ‘Good Governance Week’, which was launched by Vice President Dr Bawumia, which had resulted in the outreach programme, would draw more taxpayers to the register with the GRA.
