Teacher Licensure Exams Will Not Be Cancelled – Dep. Minister for Education

Dr. John Ntim Fordjour, Dep. Minister for Education

The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. John Ntim Fordjour, has stated that the Ministry will continue to conduct the licensure examination for teachers, as he believes this is essential to ensuring that professional teachers are produced for the education sector.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s Ghana Teacher Prize in Accra, Dr. Fordjour emphasized that the licensure exams are crucial for recognizing teachers as professionals.

He added that the call by the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to ban the exams would not benefit the sector.

The Deputy Minister pledged the government’s commitment to providing resources for the education sector. On his part, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Eric Nkansah, emphasized the need for innovations to support teachers.

The Ministry is set to celebrate this year’s World Teachers’ Day on October 5th, 2024. The event, under the theme ‘Celebrating Excellence, Valorizing Our Teachers,’ will be held in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, to recognize the vital role that teachers play in education.
