Tamale becoming scary as youth abuse hard drugs

A concerned resident of Tamale in the Northern Region has expressed fear over the alarming rate at which the youth are abusing hard drugs and other related substances that are dangerous to their health.

According to FK Farouk, the youth who are into this illegal trade now have the courage to advertise and openly trade in various suburbs of Tamale.

He disclosed that some homes in Tamale now provide customers to the illegal dealers who are mostly girls as young as 10 years of age.

He said, they openly abuse these drugs while their guardians look on without worry.

Mr Farouk, a student of the University for Professional Studies ( UPS) further quizzes the whereabouts of the religious morals and values that were once upon a time the guiding principle used to nurture every young growing person who hails especially from this part of Ghana.

He went further to raised concerns over the silence of adults on the social canker and bemoaned how the youth who are supposed to be leaders in the future are being groomed.

“In the past, this illegality used to be done under the cover of secrecy, darkness and far away in the bushes mostly known as ghettos. Many are therefore surprised about how it is eventually becoming legal even in some homes people go into these businesses without being apprehended by the law enforcement agencies,” he noted.

Mr. Farouk also mentioned how the abuse of tramadol has become the order of the day with the youth much involved in the practice. Wee smoking, alcohol and the intake of other hard drugs is rampant these days in the society.

He indicated that the incessant abuse of drugs is the reason most of the youth are walking naked on the streets as madmen and women.
