The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized some District Directors of the Electoral Commission and the Security personnel for preventing NDC agents from monitoring the ongoing vote transfer and ID card replacement exercise.
The former Communications Minister urged them to respect the process and stop interfering with the work of other party agents.
“The NPP sympathisers who are District Directors of the Electoral Commission of Ghana and NPP fanatics who are wearing security uniforms (disgracing the service) must stop preventing NDC Agents from monitoring the ongoing application of Proxy and Transfer of votes exercise”.
Omane Boamah said it was agreed that party agents would be allowed to party agents to monitor the exercise. He said it is thus surprising to head EC Directors claiming party agents are not allowed to monitor the exercise.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we all agreed in the presence of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs. Jean Mensah, at IPAC that Agents of political parties shall be allowed to monitor the process.”
According to Omane Boamah, the NDC agents in Kumawu in the Ashanti Region were driven away when they went to the centre to monitor the exercise.
“At the District EC Office have just been driven away by the police commander. The EC Director is claiming the parties are not supposed to present reps in the replacement of cards and transfer process.”
Meanwhile, NDC agents have been asked to use the party’s call centre to report issues happening at the various centres.
“Call Centre for monitoring is still active 👌 Let us know in real-time as and when such anomalies occur… the Agents already know the phone numbers,” Omane Boamah stated.
