The Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah has commended the outgoing Western Regional Sports Development Officer (WRSDO), Kwame Amponfi Jnr for his efforts in developing sports in the region.
According to the Minister, there was a growing need for private sector participation in the development of the country’s sports and the work done by the Regional Sports Development Officer needed commendation.
He said he was impressed with facilities at the stadium but urged managers to utilise the hotel and restaurant facilities by way of renting it out to bring in revenue for the management of the stadium.
The Minister who was impressed with the work done by the Sports Development Officer mentioned that “comparatively, for all my Regional Sports Facility inspection tour, I think the general sanitation and conditions at the Sekondi Sports Stadium are not bad at all.”
He added that “the young man, the Regional Sports Director (Kwame Amponfi Jnr) is very enthusiastic and he needs the support of all of us for sports in the region to grow.”
According to the Minister, when the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Inspection Team also visited his office, they were equally full of praises for the general prevailing conditions at the Sekondi Sports Stadium.
He said the team noted that there were a few things that needed to be fixed before the stadium would be ready to host the rest of the sub-region for the Fox Sports WAFU tournament.
The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) who accompanied the minister for the visit was also much appreciative of the good work of his staff at the Sekondi Sports Stadium.
