Special Prosecutor brouhaha: Akuffo-Addo is irredeemably corrupt – Martin Amidu

Special Prosecutor nominee Martin Amidu

In a more damning revelation, the Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has alleged President Nana Akuffo-Addo is irredeemably corrupt.

This was contained in his letter of resignation presented to the president Monday, November 16th 2020 saying the President has been interfering in his work as the special prosecutor citing his risk assessment report on the infamous Agyepa Royalties transaction.

Martin Amidu has indicated that with his work experience as a special prosecutor to president Nana Akuffo-Addo, it became abundantly clear to him that the continuous interference of the president in his work confirms he is irredeemably corrupt.

The special prosecutor noted, “regrettably, our wishes have not materialized during your Excellency’s first term in office for obvious operational and political reasons, and we now fundamentally disagree on a non-partisan professional approach to the prevention of corruption and fighting corruption to make it a high-risk enterprise for public officers. I also do not see any serious non-partisan prospect of any improvement in preventing and fighting corruption in your Excellency’s next term of office in 2021”.

He further added that President Nana Akuffo-Addo was acting as a judge in his own cause in usurping his functions to take any independent follow-up actions on the anti-corruption assessment report of the Agyapa deal.

According to Mr Amidu, when the President realised from the thirteen (13) page Agyapa letter dated 16th October 2020 conveying the conclusion and observation of anti-corruption assessment report to him had negative anti-corruption assessment against his conduct as a president did not want to accept the report. He explained this was in regards to the procedure adopted in granting the Executive Approval dated 24th March 2020 and president’s assent of the Minerals Income Investment (Amendment) Act, 2020 (Act 1024) on 27th August 2020 intended to retroactively impact the parliamentary approval of the transactions documents.
