Southern Volta to get first university under Mahama – Agbana reveals

Agbana on new university

The Ohawu Agricultural College in Ohawu, Ketu North, will be upgraded to a fully fledged public university under the next John Mahama administration, the Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edem Agbana, has announced.

According to him, this initiative was included in the party’s 2020 manifesto and will be reiterated in their 2024 manifesto, which is set to be launched on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

“Ohawu Agric College to be upgraded to a University. Southern Volta will get our first public university & it is in Ketu North,” Mr. Agbana wrote on social media.

The college, established in 1965, has been a center for training Ghanaians in various agricultural disciplines, aiming to support and develop the country’s agricultural sector by educating and producing skilled professionals in the field.

It is notably situated in a community where agricultural activities are predominant. Converting the college to a fully fledged university will be historic, as it would be the first university in Southern Volta.

However, it will be the fourth university in the region, following the other three universities: the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho Technical University (HTU), and E.P. University College (EPUC).
