Shocking: why Akufo-Addo dropped Alan and Bawumia over 2021 Budget reading

NanaAddo-Buwumia-Alan

It has emerged that President Nana Akufo-Addo has dropped Alan Kyerematen and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who is also the Head of Economic Management Team over the 2021 Budget reading and settled on Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu.

The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Leader of government business in parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu will on Friday 12th March 2021 deliver the first budget of the Nana Akufo-Addo’s second term government as the nominee Minister of Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta is at the United States of America (USA) for medical attention over Covid-19 complications.

Even though the government is in urgent need of someone to present the budget, it is revealed that both Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had been falling over one another to take up the Budget reading.

It was indicated that President Nana Akufo-Addo had settled on Alan Kyerematen to read the Budget but this took a last-minute u-turn when the President and his Cabinet retired to Peduase for a retreat. Both Alan’s and Bawumia’s camps believe that the Budget reading opportunity would be an ‘indirect approval’ from the President of the person’s candidature and also an opportunity to project the candidature of the reader within the party ahead of their internal primaries.

Both camps are not happy with the development after their intense alleged lobbying, president Akufo-Addo though has a successor in mind but has refused to show signals of it as it is early days yet for the party.

Osei Kyei Bonsu read the budget was announced by the Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at a press briefing at Peduase Lodge on Monday afternoon, where the Cabinet was on a 3-day retreat.
