Security must protect JB Danquah ‘killer’ following his confessions – NDC MP

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, MP for MP for South Dayi Constituency

A member of the Member of Constitutional, Legal & Parliamentary Affairs Committee and the Judicial Committee of Parliament, Mr. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor is calling for a full protection of Mr. Daniel Asiedu, the suspected killer of the late MP, JB Danquah following his personal confession yesterday in court that some member of the ruling NPP contracted him to kill one of their own, JB Danquah in 2016.

In a statement, Hon. Dafeamekpor said “The confessions by Mr. Daniel [ads1]Asiedu, one of the accused persons in the murder of a Member of Parliament, Hon. JB. Danquah Adu that he was contracted by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to execute this dastardly act of killing a sitting Member of Parliament, a member of the New Patriotic Party, is a serious matter that must attract the attention of Ghanaians and especially the Security officials holding the suspect in their custody”

According to the NDC lawmaker, the confessions of Daniel Asiedu “are so grave that every step must be taken to protect the life of Mr. Asiedu in order to ensure that this issue gets to its logical conclusion by ensuring that justice is served on those who deserve it.”

For him, “while many would relate to commentaries in the public domain concerning the brutal murder of the Hon. MP, the confessions are appropriate to guide in arriving at a concrete process in identifying those who actually undertook the steps in the killing”.

Mr. Dafeamekpor is therefore calling on “the security officials holding the accused in their custody to ensure that the interests of the public, the memory of late JB Danquah, and that of his wife and children, are held in high esteem to avert any unfortunate incident befalling him that would curtail the processes at arriving at the truth”.

One was Tuesday, February 9, 2016 Ghanaians woke up with the sad news of the assassination of Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North and two arrests were made and charged with murder.

In March 2017 the two men linked to the murder of the late Mr J.B. Danquah-Adu, were discharged by the Accra High Court following the filing of a Nolle prosequi by the Attorney General. They were immediately rearrested and currectly facing trail.

SECURITY MUST PROTECT MR. DANIEL ASIEDU FOLLOWING HIS CONFESSIONS

The confessions by Mr. Daniel Asiedu, one of the accused persons in the murder of a Member of Parliament, Hon. JB. Danquah Adu that he was contracted by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to execute this dastardly act of killing a sitting Member of Parliament, a member of the New Patriotic Party, is a serious matter that must attract the attention of Ghanaians and especially the Security officials holding the suspect in their custody.

These confessions are so grave that every step must be taken to protect the life of Mr. Asiedu in order to ensure that this issue gets to its logical conclusion by ensuring that justice is served on those who deserve it.

The killing of Hon. JB Danquah came as a shock to many Ghanaians. This singular act has rendered a woman without a husband and children without a father.

Since the unfortunate incident, Ghanaians have expressed interest in the investigations process to see how the entire process would be carried out to deliver justice.

For almost two years since this matter began witnessing a court process, yesterday’s confessions made out of the accused person’s own volution, brings an interesting perspective into the matter.

While many would relate to commentaries in the public domain concerning the brutal murder of the Hon. MP, the confessions are appropriate to guide in arriving at a concrete process in identifying those who actually undertook the steps in the killing.

I wish to use this opportunity to call on the security officials holding the accused in their custody to ensure that the interests of the public, the memory of late JB Danquah, and that of his wife and children, are held in high esteem to avert any unfortunate incident befalling him that would curtail the processes at arriving at the truth.

We must stand together in support of Mr. Asiedu in this difficult times and encourage him to be emboldened to speak the truth that would comfort the soul of late JB Danquah. This call, of course, is in consonance with the tenets of our criminal jurisprudence.

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Esq. MP
