Scrape off ferry fare to compensate us – Afram Plains to Government

A cross section of the people of Afram Plains in the Eastern Region are calling on the government to either scrape off the fare for crossing the ferry or reduce it as a form of compensation for their losses during the construction of the Akosombo Dam.

[ads1]In an interview with Joshua Tettey, they lamented that their grandparents lost their lives during the construction of the Dam hence the current hardship and nature of the place.

“Before the construction of the dam, our grand parents used to go into cocoa farming. The spillage after the construction of the dam lead to the lost of lives and properties. We are therefore pleading with the government to as a matter of urgency scrape the fare off or reduce it to compensate us for our lost”, they said.

They further pleaded that, the ferry should be arranged to start packing at Ekye Amanfrom after the day’s work.

” The metro mass lives Donkorkrom as early as 4am just to go and wait at Ekye till 9am for the ferry to come all the way from Adawso. It’s really time consuming. Why can’t they arrange for the ferry to pack at Ekye to make transportation more easier? In emergency cases where ambulances are to transport patients outside the district, the ambulance will also have to wait which is really risky”, they told Joshua.

The Ekye-Adawso ferry charges 3.00 per head whiles Agordeke-Tokor ferry charges 7.00 per head.
