Roads to Parliament to close January 7— Police

Some roads leading to and fro State House will be closed to the public on Thursday, January 7, 2021 during the swearing-in of the President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Vice President-elect, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the next tenure of office.

The move forms part of security measures put in place by the Ghana Police Service to ensure a smooth conduct of activities during the inauguration.

According to reports available to Awake News some of the major roads to be affected by the closure are the Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on the Lokko Street, the Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, the Crossroad heading towards Starlet 95 Street, the Independence Arch near the Ohene Djan Stadium, the Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue (Ghana Institute of Journalism) Road on the Haile Selassie Street and the Opeibea, 37 Military Interchange and Ako Adjei on the Liberation Road.

This statement was issued by the Director of Public Affairs, Superintendent Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman (Mrs) dated, January 5, 2021.

They further stated that some alternative routes have been made available so as to enable movement to any part of Accra without difficulties.

Road diversion

Due to the road closure,traffic from Tetteh Quarshie interchange on the Liberation Road to the Accra Central Business District, Ring Road or Nkrumah circle would be diverted at the intersection close to Opeibea house or Silver star towers complex to the right on Casely Hayford road to join Olusegun Obasanjo highway and the Kanda road. Commuters from Accra Business district heading towards Accra International Conference Centre, Independence avenue to Ako Adjei interchange , Abdul Diouf road, King Hassan road, El-Sinoussi street to Liberation road will be routed to the third exit at the Ridge roundabout on the castlr road towards ridge hospital to join other routes to their destination. Commuters on the 28th February road towards starlets 91 road are encouraged to use the Kiberia road infront of the GRA customs headquarters and thence to their destination.
