President Akufo-Addo

The Hohoe Constituency National Democratic Congress, has cautioned President Akufo-Addo to respect the residents of Hohoe following his visit and implored him not to commissioned any uncompleted project in the region.

The Constituency executives in a statement signed by the Communications Officer, Prosper Kumi said, “If it is true that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is visiting Hohoe, then it is important for us to put him on notice that for the first time, he should show the people of Ghana especially the citizens of Hohoe some respect”.

President Akufo-Addo on Friday, September 10, took his nationwide tour to the Volta Region, the stronghold of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The tour would present him with an opportunity to have first-hand information on some public projects in the region and also interact with people in the region on the government’s programmes, policies, and development agenda.

Reacting to this, the party said they, “have perused Nana addo’s itenary and it is clear he will inspect two(2) projects and commission one. The president is suppose to inspect ongoing works of the new Hohoe market, inspect the construction works on the Hohoe UHAS campus on the Fodome road and commission the Gbi-Godenu Rural Technology Centre/ Light Industrial Area”.

According to the party, all the aforementioned projects were all by the efforts of the previous President John Dramani Mahama NDC administration.

Stressing, “the least we will urge the president to do is to respect the people of Hohoe by not speaking untruth about any of this projects and also acknowledge the NDC government for the initiation of the projects”.

Touching on the market project, the party said some clear fact that must not escape the President on his inspection of the Hohoe Market Project is that it is a world bank funded project with Urban Development Grant (UDG) as a reward for the Hohoe municipality performing creditably well in the assembly performance ratings.

“The excellent performance of the then Municipality Chief Executives under the NDC government gave birth to this project. Records are readily available at the assembly that testify to the fact that the 2 years of Hon. Herman Victor Condobrey, the four (4) years of Hon. Professor Margaret Kwaku as the Municipal Chief Executives were the real deals that gave us the market project”, the statement read.

The party continued: “In the run up to the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the NPP government machinery in the Constituency deliberately distorted facts surrounding the Gbi Godenu Light Industrial Area, what they want to call Rural Technology Centre (name changing, usual of them).
The project was born by the visionary Municipal Chief Executive, Professor Margaret Kwaku under President John Dramani NDC government in 2014. The land itself is a 40 acre land that was purchased in 2014 from the Chief and people of Godenu. The purpose for which the land was bought is to move all the garages from Hohoe to that centre and construct a bolt and nots factory that serves the garages”.

Also on UHAS, they said “Mr. President, the permanent campus of UHAS has a history that must not be messed up with. The people of Hohoe still feel very sad on how we have been treat on this huge project that will have changed the academic and economic fortunes of the whole municipality and beyond. The project was abandoned after the 2016 elections at the stage the John Dramani Mahama NDC government left it.

Reiterating, the attitude of abandoning projects by the NPP government is sickening and we call on the President to prioritise the completion of the eastern corridor road project.

They, “we wish to also notify the president that no uncompleted project should be commissioned as it happened in the Bono region.

The Hohoe NDC is, therefore, entreating the President to respect the people of Hohoe and not fall for petty propaganda on any of the projects, “asserting the election year deceptions are over”.

PRESS RELEASE
9TH SEPTEMBER, 2021.

THE PRESIDENT MUST RESPECT THE PEOPLE OF HOHOE ON HIS VISIT
If it is true that Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo is visiting Hohoe, then it is important for us to put him on notice that for the first time, he should show the people of Ghana especially the citizens of Hohoe some respect.
I have perused his itenary and it is clear he will inspect two2 projects and commission one. The president is suppose to inspect ongoing works of the new Hohoe market, inspect the construction works on the Hohoe UHAS campus on the Fodome road and commission the Gbi-Godenu Rural Technology Centre/ Light Industrial Area.
The good people of Hohoe wish to establish and buttress the point and for it to be known to the President that his government has done nothing original for the people of Hohoe. That is to say he has never initiated any major project and completed same in any part of the Hohoe Constituency since 2017 when he became the president of Ghana.
All the aforementioned projects were all by the efforts of the previous President John Dramani Mahama NDC administration. The least we will urge the president to do is to respect the people of Hohoe by not speaking untruth about any of this projects and also acknowledge the NDC government for the initiation of the projects.

THE HOHOE MARKET PROJECT
Some clear fact that must not escape the President on his inspection of the Hohoe Market Project is that it is a world bank funded project with Urban Development Grant (UDG) as a reward for the Hohoe municipality performing creditably well in the assembly performance ratings. The excellent performance of the then Municipality Chief Executives under the NDC government gave birth to this project. Records are readily available at the assembly that testify to the fact that the 2 years of Hon. Herman Victor Condobrey, the four (4) years of Hon. Professor Margaret Kwaku as the Municipal Chief Executives were the real deals that gave us the market project. The records below speak for itself.
Improvement on UDG Assessment
1) From 68% in 2012 (2007-2008 assessment) – Hon. John Peter Amewu
2) Moved to 85% in 2013 (2009-2010 assessment) – Hon. Herman Victor Condobrey
3) Moved to 92% in 2014 (2011-2012 assessment) – Hon. Professor Margaret Kwaku
4) Moved to 98% in 2015 (2013-2014 assessment) – Hon. Professor Margaret Kwaku.

Acceptably so, the follow ups of Hon. Teddy Ofori also contributed to the project seeing the light of day. President Akuffo Addo should therefore take note that neither him nor any of his Cabinet Appointees, has any hand in that Market Project. He and his government are well known for apportioning glory to themselves where they did nothing and do not deserve. Clear examples are the various interchanges we currently have in Tema, Obitsebi and Pokuase all being the handy works of President John Dramani Mahama. We in Hohoe will not tolerate any form of misleading posturing by the President and his appointees.

GBI-GODENU RURAL TECHNOLOGY CENTRE/ LIGHT INDUSTRIAL AREA.
In the run up to the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the NPP government machinery in the Constituency deliberately distorted facts surrounding the Gbi Godenu Light Industrial Area, what they want to call Rural Technology Centre (name changing, usual of them).
Let the President make no mistake, the people know the facts. The project was born by the visionary Municipal Chief Executive, Professor Margaret Kwaku under President John Dramani NDC government in 2014. The land itself is a 40 acre land that was purchased in 2014 from the Chief and people of Godenu. The purpose for which the land was bought is to move all the garages from Hohoe to that centre and construct a bolt and nots factory that serves the garages. The land was properly demarcated for the various garages, electricity and water duly extended to the land. Rural Enterprise, an agency under the Municipal Assembly took up the project of establishing the bolt and nots factory. They had since finished with the supper structure before the coming of the Akuffo Addo/ Bawumia government in 2017. At one time NPP went to the site to erect a sign post indicating that the place is a Rice Processing Factory being their One District One Factory Project; huge and a shameful lie. Today, the same people are commissioning the place as Rural Technology Centre. What has changed? It is not an NPP project for it to be counted as one of their One District One Factory Project. The President must not be misled to do any petty politics with it.

UHAS MAIN CAMPUS
Mr. The NDC government ensured the acquisition of the land from the chiefs and people of Fodome, 961acres of land was made available by the people for use. Over 90% of the work done that President will be there to inspect is the handy work of the NDC government. The NPP government, for the last five (5) years, have done nothing significant about that project and it is regrettable. It is not funny and must not be the usual politics by the President. The visit of the President should have been about the commissioning of that project, not inspection after all this years. President Akuffo Addo must reassure the citizens of Hohoe on the early completion of the project.

OTHER MATTERS
President Akuffo Addo should also understand that the propaganda around the construction of the eastern corridor road that he launched on and benefited from is dead and gone. The people along the stretch believe that if President Mahama were still in power, the eastern corridor road would have been completed. The attitude of abandoning projects by the NPP government is sickening and we call on the President to prioritise the completion of the eastern corridor road project.
We are also surprised that the stadium project could not catch the attention of the President for inspection.
We wish to also notify the president that no uncompleted project should be commissioned as it happened in the Bono region.
We are only demanding of the President to respect the people of Hohoe and not fall for petty propaganda on any of the projects. The election year deceptions are over.
