Resign to Protect your Image and the Gov’t – Atta Akyea tells Ken Ofori-Atta

The Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea has admonished the Minister of Finance AND Economic Planning, Mr. Ken Ofori-Attah to resign to protect his reputation and the government.

Calls by opposition NDC Members of Parliament, and subsequently those of the ruling NPP for Mr. Ofori-Atta to step aside have been ranging for months. This is fueled by general hardship being experienced by citizens as a result of bad economic policies.

In an interview on Face to Face on Citi TV, Mr. Atta-Akyea reiterated the significance of self-reflection for Mr Ofori-Atta, urging him to resign from his position to save his reputation and the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). “For me, what is very frightening is the fact that you have a whole army of people saying look, you’ve had enough. I think that that could be a way for him to relax. Look at all the burdens on one man. So it is his individual decision to make as to whether he should go or he should continue”, he stated.

Mr. Atta-Akyea stressed that Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta’s resignation would rather add credit to his credibility, the government, and the country at large. “He should look at himself and look at all the troubles that everybody believes that when he is not there then the nation will have peace. If that is what is the thinking of the people, I will advise myself. He should save himself and save the government and have his peace because he needs it, a man cannot be troubled in the manner in which he has been troubled,” Mr Atta Akyea noted.

He acknowledged that the country’s economy is in shambles, but said it would be “unkind” and “cruel” for any individual to attribute the economic problems in the Akufo-Addo government to Dr. Bawumia, the vice president who is the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.
