“Renewed Dumsor” Caused by Lack of Ideas – Kofi Bentil

Senior Vice President at IMANI-Africa, Kofi Bentil, believes the current “Dumsor” is a result of a lack of ideas. He has thus called for a cabinet reshuffle and urged the President Akufo Addo/Bawumia government to introduce “new ideas” to address the power crisis.

“I think the President should reshuffle his cabinet and clean out the old wood! Allow the new ideas to take hold please,” he stated in a Facebook post.

He also criticized the Ministry of Finance for its poor handling of the energy problem, pointing out that the nuisance of electricity taxes being introduced might intensify public hardships without yielding significant revenue for the government.

“The renewed Dumsor is terrible and made worse by the totally retrograde taxes on electricity. I totally disagree with the Ministry of Finance on this. Like the e-levy, it won’t raise significant revenue but will impose hardship,” he argued.

He emphasized the importance of pushing for alternative leadership and accountability for those who mismanaged the current system.

Good Morning my brother

I hear I’m trending over a picture that’s almost 10 years old regarding dumsorMustStop.

To be clear

The renewed dumsor is terrible and made worse by the totally retrograde taxes on electricity. I totally disagree with the Ministry of Finance on this. Like the e-levy, It won’t raise significant revenue but will impose hardship. I think the President should reshuffle his cabinet and clean out the old wood!! Allow the new ideas to take hold, please!!

Also to be clear…

1. I am proud of my track record of protests and speaking up. They made a huge difference whether protesting dumsor on the streets or fighting the government in court on RTI or any issue, we forced change.

2. If I were 10 years younger I will repeat the protests, I will focus on those who have mismanaged the system and brought these hardships. Fortunately this time they are going out by design so we have a fresh start. We should find new ideas not go in reverse and bring back old ideas.

3. If I were to protest again, I will also make sure I have alternatives in mind and will push those alternatives if I believe in them. They will not include any of those who are proven to have failed on the same issues in the past. They will however include those who have not had the clear chance. Let’s put their ideas to test by giving them real power.

4. Ghana must be run and someone will have to step up. We cannot make progress by going backward, even if there are mistakes, we must move forward. We cannot go back to what failed and was rejected. We have to move on to new ideas and those we haven’t tried. I choose to move forward.

5. Dumsor won’t be solved by those under whom it was worse. It will be solved by new ideas and hard work.

Let’s move forward with new ideas #dontgoback
