Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has announced that the recent power outages locally known as ‘dumsor’ will be a thing of the past as government has renegotiated a new agreement with Independent Power Producer, (IPP) Sunon Asogli.

The renegotiation arose after Sunon Asogli shut down it’s 560-megawatt power plant due to government’s inability to pay for the power consumed and to also purchase power whenever the IPP produces some.

The action of shutting down the plant led to recent power outages (dumsor) across the country.

However, addressing the media yesterday Monday, October 28, 2024 Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam revealed that a new agreement had been reached with Sunon Asogli guaranteeing power stability soon. He indicated the agreement with Sunon Asogli cuts across other IPPs, showing government’s commitment to providing sustainable power.

The minister said, “We have continued to produce power. I was informed [Sunday] that they [Sunon Asogli] are ready to sign the settlement agreement. And so we have instructed ECG to go ahead and sign.

“That should help in normalizing our relationship so we can move on. And so signing that agreement will also mean that the third IPP is also done as far as the restructuring is concerned.”
