Asante Kotoko has given their coach Prosper Ogum an ultimatum to turn things around or be sacked. Prosper Ogum has not led Kotoko to victory in seven matches, losing all except a 0-0 draw at Bechem United.
During a period of shambles that has seen the club ship in 11 goals while only returning 4, calls have spiraled for the dismissal of the former league winner. The calls reached a crescendo when on April 16, supporters stormed the club’s training base, Adako Jachie to express their displeasure.
Following the stand off, the Interim Management Committee has moved to appease the supporters and restore the club’s dignity. A search has already began for a replacement. However, the IMC do not just want to let the coach they expressly supporter throughout these bad times go so they offered him an ultimatum.
He has been told to win the next two matches else he will be sacked. It is understood the IMC will meet the Asantehene before a final decision is made on the future of the coach.
The Porcupine Warriors will face Samartex this weekend in the league and with their hopes of winning the title already over, a win to push them up the table will be a consolation. According to sources, the coach may not stay beyond that match if the results do not go well.
The Samartex match will be a tricky one for Prosper Ogum given that the league leaders have not lost in their last five matches, only dropping points once. A win for Kotoko may lift them away from the bottom half of table depending on results from other centres.
Meanwhile, Kotoko has former Karela United coach Bismarck Kobi Mensah has been approached by Kotoko for the coaching role at the club. Kobi Mensah was with Bechem United at the start of the season before he was sacked when results turned bad in the second round of the league.
Though he was sacked for poor performance at Bechem United, Kobi Mensah has enormous topflight experience. He has managed Medeama SC and Great Olympics in the past before landing the role at Karela United which ultimately led him to Bechem United last July.
