Recruiting police at Depo is just one section of police training. A section that prepared the candidate’s mindset for the job he/she is going to do. The actual training happens at the station the graduate is going to start the policing from and that training will be done and supervised by the old inspector on the job. But unfortunately, that step has been broken down by protocol and Godfather list.
This graduate demand the station and unit they wish to start the police duties from. At the unit, those of them who have a higher appetite for money will request to be posted to MTTD department of police, a few of them who joined the police and discover morale will demand to be posted to RDF, SWAT, etc. Some even buy bank duties forever. Because at bank duty, they will receive some allowance from the bank. That’s okay but it shouldn’t be a taste.
After police training school, the old inspector on job 28, 30 years must retrain the candidate on the job. Test his/her integrity, ability, faithfulness, commitment on the policing job but that step is dismissed by arrogant politicians and godfathers who connect the candidate into the service through the Engel of devil call protocol list.
These guys have no respect for the old inspector whose nickname is ITEM, or AKORA. This brings in mind one perfect inspector formerly at Nungua police station called inspector Marfo. This man knows the job, loves the job understood the job, dedicated to the job.
The time this constable is supposed to be holding files for the old inspector, to the crime scene and be picking points to learn, they are busy chasing money at the other point. You dare not whip them in line. The next telephone call on your phone is from the big man, the politician, the imam, the Nana Togbe Naa to remind you his son is under you. We sharpen our own knife and it’s cutting us left-right. Until politicians and the corrupt big man take his icy hand from grooming our security personnel, am afraid Ghana will continue to entertain bad characters in all our security services.
If you train your dog well it catches better without blood on the bushmeat. You train it badly, it catches the bushmeat, eat it and show you the blood on its mouth.
Allow the old inspectors, station officers at various stations to take this recruit through the actual policing thoroughly. How can Ghana police start using constables for sensitive police duties? Do Ghana police forget that “constable has no sense” is that not how they are referred to? What changed now?
Use the constable as station orderly till they learn more. Engage them more. Allow them to carry docket and files to follow the old inspector and learn the job.
It may interest you that many young police are into internet fraud. They act as shells for Yahoo boys. Not only the police but some private soldiers. The truth is bitter but it’s real. Young police, soldiers can let their senior in rank sweat just because that senior is just trying to put his junior right.
I know I will receive backlash from some negative mindset who come across my write-up but I am careless because conscience punishes me daily when I have a clue of wayward and I didn’t speak about or against it.
We need a moral society.
Let me remind the police service to do well and remove the thought; “I will teach you where power lies” make police administration genuine before the eyes of all Ghanaians.
May God bless our Homeland Ghana and protect all genuine police officers but expose the bad greedy ones
