Police Officer, David Kangwononuo denies using alleged fake arrest warrant

A Police Officer at the Adenta District Police CID Command, D/CLP David Kangwononuo has denied he allegedly used a fake arrest warrant from the Kwabenya Circuit Court in Accra for which he was dragged to the Inspector General of Police.

Mr. David Kanwononuo was reacting to Awake News’ earlier publication “Police Officer dragged to IGP over use of alleged fake arrest warrant”  over a petition addressed to the IGP by Mr. Isaac Azuri.

In the petition dated February 17, 2020 to the IGP, Mr. Isaac Azuri accused Mr. Kangwononuo who was earlier facing trail at the Police Intelligence & Professional Standard Bureau (PIPS) over “wrongful arrest, detention and needless reassessment” of using alleged fake arrest warrant to cause his arrest.

This is the warrant of arrest Mr. Isaac Azuri attached to his petition to the IGP

However, in a WhatsApp reactions with Awake News’ Efo Korsi Senyo, Mr. Kanwononuo insisted the warrant of arrest he used is not fake adding that “am not just an investigator also am a law student and I know the principles and implications of some [of] these things”

Providing copies of the warrant of arrest Mr. Kanwononuo claims he used this is what he gave to provide:

“This was the warrants used to arrest accused Isaac Azuri and his accomplice”

Mr. Kanwononuo threatens legal actions against Awake News:

Mr. Kanwononuo who said he is a law student is accusing Awake News publishing fake news threatened to go to court and try the law adding “am assuring you is not a threat we have to try the law”

“Good morning Mr Senyo i saw an article you published talking about police man dragged to IGP for allegedly using fake court warrant. Am here on this note asking you to withdraw that article from the media and render an apology to the police officer or else be ready for the possible outcome. The gentleman who brought that article Issac Azuri is a longtime criminal and now the law has cough up with him he is facing several charges before the kwabenya circuit Court .
I advised you to always consult the appropriate office before publishing such articles on the social media.
Failure to do what i advised you to do you will face court action.”

Mr. Kangwononuo continued that:

“Is some of you that has been publishing the fake news to the public causing fear and panic, because nothing is done about it you continue to decieve the public. Don’t allow these duvianc to create a problem for you. I don’t know how much he paid you for you to conduct yourself unprofessional in this manner but you guys should be up and doing.”

“i know you very well we will meet. I wish you could have known the person you are dealing with.” – He told Awake News’ Efo Korsi Senyo.

The issuance of the alleged fake arrest warrant:

In the WhatsApp interview, Awake News’ Efo Korsi Senyo asked Mr. Kangwononuo:

Can you please confirm if you have knowledge of this warrant of arrest Mr. Azuri alleged you use of which he attached it to the petition to the IGP?

This is the unedited response of Mr. Kangwononuo to the above question:

“This warrant was issued by the kwabenya circuit Court but when police met Azuri at the Pips office and through the Pips Director wanting to arrest the suspect Azuri the Pips Director said the warrant was defective and enquire in the presence of Azuri and other police officers present from the court and the court registra told him the was issued by them and director told them because of the cancellation the warrant was defective and cannot be used to arrest the suspect the director on that asked that the court reissue another warrant. He made an investigator at the Pips to do photo copy of the defective warrant and gave a copy to Isaac which not the normal practice but because the disclosure, The court later reissued the correct warrant to the police which was used in arresting the suspects. After the arrest of Isaac Azuri accomplice Sowah Isaac run into hiding until the court date he came to the court with a lawyer and the warrants were rescinded and the two suspects were granted bail to two sureties each.
But before that two lawyers from different law firms came to the police station and verify the warrants that were used.
So it was even the Pips Director who stop the arrest of Isaac Azuri at the Pips office
So that defective warrant was giving to him at the Pips and he went to the court with it and he was told by the court clerk that the warrant was issued from the their outfit the criminal still went ahead showing the defective warrant to people when knew at that time New warrants were reissued for his arrest and he was running away from the police while his accomplice Sowah was in cells pending his Court date

So all the petitions he took Pips were lies so when i resume from leave that was on the 12/03/20 i went to Pips with the prosecutor for further clarification with the proceedings from the court and it the Pips Director knew all the allegations he was making was lies he was even supposed to be charged for deceit of a public officer but he beg the prosecutor at Pips in the presence of the director and i show your article to the Pips Director.

So if you think you have case we’ll see to it”
