A police officer, identified as Sergeant Emmanuel Amede of the Ghana Police Service, is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself on Sunday dawn at around 2:30 am in his room at the Nungua Police Barracks in the Greater Accra Region.
The reason for his suicide is not yet discovered. But some close friends told Awake News that, the Sergeant has for some time now been complaining of some alleged frustrations and intimidations that he has been receiving from the police administration.
A fellow police officer bitterly complained about the inability of the deceased to document the said frustrations he alleged before taking his life.
The 44-year-old Officer with service number 34586 is reported to have shot himself with the AK 47 rifle which he booked for official duty the fortnight.
The wife of the deceased is reported in the media to have given an account of the incidence saying that, her husband suddenly woke up from sleep at about 2:30 am, took the rifle and asked her and the children to leave the room else he would kill them.
According to the report, the wife said she drew the attention of her neighbors over the strange conduct of her husband but before they reach the scene, he shot himself at the throat.
The Crime Scene Management Team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Police Headquarters were called to cover the scene.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation pending an autopsy.
