Police Inspector attacks Esca Football Academy player with a cutlass

Inspector Boahen and Kponyo

A Police Officer identified as Chief Inspector Boahene has attacked a football player of Esca Football Academy with a cutlass for playing a ball into his compound.

On Friday 19th March, 2021 while Esca Football Academy players were training on a football field behind inspector Boahene’s house a player played the ball into his compound at Brekusu in the Eastern Region.

“The ball hit a poly tank and return back to the playing field. The next thing we witness was the policeman coming out of his house with a cutlass and started shouting didn’t I tell you to stop playing. He got close to one of the players, Martin Kpornyo, and used the cutlass to slap at his back” an eye witness said.

Awake News Agaatorne Douglas Asaah speaking to Chief Inspector Boahene to ascertain the facts of the story, admitted that he had a confrontation with the players but denied ever beating the player with the cutlass adding that though he went to the field with the cutlass.

He said “Yeah I did. What happened was behind my house where the football field is situated. I don’t play football on the football field but I make sure everything is accurate on the football field. During the lockdown, when it was raining I have to carry my boys to stand in the rain and planted grass on the field”.

According to the Police Officer, “We are pestering my house and you know is raining and so when you play the football to hit the wall it can break it. The same club that you are talking about, listen they are not from here, they’re from Burkina Faso”

“Do I have to sit down in my own town, in my country for somebody from Burkina Faso to come and cause damage to my property ?” He quizzed.

But some eyewitnesses maintained that after the attack on the player, he [Chied Inspector Boahene] rained insults on the coach and threatened him with a stick adding that “It must be noted that the park was there before Boahene built.”

Boahene noted that he will not allow the academy to play on the field until they show or prove to him that they are duly registered in Ghana under the Ghana Football Association.

The Coach of the Club, Ramond said the player Inspector Boahene attacked has been sent to the hospital and the case has been reported at the police station.

Awake News’ independent checks released that the Football Club in question has been registered with the Registrar General Department and Ghana Football Association.
