Dr. Abass Ganiu, a resident in Germany and a native of Chamba, has donated medical equipments valued 150,000 Euros to the St. Joseph Clinic in Chamba and Bimbila Government hospitals, to enhance healthcare delivery.
The items include hundreds of wheel chairs, hospital beds, mattresses, scanners, radiology, dental machines, five thousand pieces of eye glasses and other items.
The philantropist, Dr. Abass said the gesture forms part of his social responsibility and an initiative to export German healthcare delivery and system to the people.
He indicated that he had plans to support the expansion of St. Joseph Clinic into a Poly-Clinic to provide healthcare services to Chamba and its environ, especially the aged.
He said, he is working with the Chamba Malgu Naa in wooing investors to support the infrastructural needs of the people.
The Chief of Chamba ethnic group, Malgu Naa Iddrisu-Sika thanked Dr. Abass Ganiu for the symbolic gesture in supporting the hospitals to provide efficient, reliable and effective healthcare.
The management of the benebfiaries on their part expressed their profound gratitude to the donor for his benevolence.
The Minister of Defence and the MP for the area who presented the items urged that the equipments be put to good use.
Furthermore, the philantropist, Dr. Abass Ganiu, the Bimbila MP, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, Malgul Naa aided by His Royal Highness, Prince Mohammed Alhaji Wumbei, the Regent of Chamba cut sod for the construction of a Technical and Vocational training center for skills and youth development.
The facility, valued at 450,000 would offer training in Industrial engineering, ICT, Automobile, Building and Constrution, Dress-Making, Beauty Care and among others.
Addressing a durbar of Chiefs and people, the philantropist commended Chiefs for providing land for the project to be executed.
The Chief of Chamba ethnic group, Malgu Naa Iddrisu Sika, on behalf of Zorsomdi Naa expressed gratitute to Dr. Abass for the project, which he believe will become a skill training hub in the region.Work on the facility is expected to begin and complete in 15 months.
Other dignitaries present were the, Nanumba North DCE, Konkomba and Fulani chiefs, the Chamba Youth Chairman, the Chamba East and West Assembly men, the political leadership of the area, Yapelsi Naa, heads of the Chamba Artisans Associations and the President of Chamba Youth Association.
As a climax, the Chamba Malgu Naa presented a traditional dress ‘fugu’ to Dr. Abass Ganiu at the Chamba Naa’s palace, as a sign of appreciation for his symbolic gesture.
This was done amidst drumming and dancing.
