People of Ave marks mother’s day with tree planting

On a day to mark and celebrate mother’s for their relentless sacrifices and impact on the lives of their children, Mama Sotsimede Adziwoe II, of Ave-Dakpa, who works with a group of NGO’s in Accra, secured about 200 nursed mango trees, moringa, cocoa, and  acacia trees, which were distributed to communities and churches within the Ave-Traditional Council for planting.

The trees were distributed by Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe V, the Paramount Chief of Ave-Dakpa, accompanied by Mama Koehu.

According to Torgbui, he was very happy about the initiative, hence his decision to go to the various communitues to distribute the trees himself. Torgbui also added that, on a day to celebrate dedicated mother’s, he sees the project as a good one to mark the day.

“For me, I’m very happy. I personally decided to do the distribution so that people would attach the needed importance to the exercise”.

“As we celebrate our mother’s today, I think Mama Setsomede has chosen a perfect project to mark the day. The Ave land has lost its vegetation and this is a perfect way to getting ourselves back on track; in protecting and conserving the environment”.

Mama Koehu, also added that many within the traditional areas are dependent on trees for fuel (charcoal) a move she says has depleted the forest reserves in the area.

According to the two, Mama Sotsimede has secured about 600 nursed trees of variety, that would be brought for distribution within the week.

They however added that, the trees distributed would be monitored to ensure the realisation of objectives for the distribution.
