Press Statement
For Immediate Release
PAYMENT OF MONTHLY ALLOWANCE TO ALL ASSEMBLY MEMBERS IS HIGHLY FEASIBLE.

Friends in the media, as one of the elected assembly members in Keta Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region and representing Anlo Afiadenyigba Dziehe-Ablame Electoral Area, my attention has been drawn to a portion of the manifesto document launched by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which clearly states that all assembly members will be paid some reasonable monthly allowance when they win the 2020 election.
Friends in the media, I write to officially endorse the promise to pay assembly members when NDC wins the 2020 election since same is HIGHLY FEASIBLE and I wish to call on all assembly members nationwide to vote for NDC come December 7, 2020 for the implementation of this laudable policy.

Two weeks ago, when some portions of the NDC proposal especially the promise to pay assembly members were leaked , some unknown groups calling themselves the “Greater Accra Regional Association of Assembly Members” and others from the Ashanti Region held series of press conferences calling the promise as NOT FEASIBLE. They however failed to prove to Ghanaians why it is not feasible. Even the Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament who might advise them, also joined them.

I wish to encourage all assembly members to ignore their deceptions and vote massively for NDC for the implementation of the policy since same would support us financially to deliver to the satisfaction of the electorates.

I wish to place on record that even the constitution says that payments of allowances to the assembly members is to be done out of the assembly’s own resources. This does not stop any government from increasing the 5% allocations to the MMDAs in order to pay the assembly members to deliver on their mandates effectively.
There some Members of Parliament and Council of State, who are on various governing boards of state institutions and taking allowances in addition to their monthly salaries.

In fact, the works of assembly members are numerous. Sometimes, assembly members go for meetings even without receiving a pesewa as sitting allowances. Some assembly members worked for four years and received GHC1,000 as their emolument, which is a day sitting allowance for members of governing boards in Ghana.
In conclusion, I call on all assembly members in Ghana and all their family members to vote for NDC in order to enable assembly members to effectively perform their responsibilities.

Thank you.
