Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT of NDC has revealed that the party projected a higher number for the ongoing limited voter registration exercise than the Electoral Commission.
He said the party considered the fact that there had been no voter registration since 2021 and estimated that at least 700,00 Ghanaians would register as new voters. However, the Electoral Commission, the body responsible for the registration estimated just a little over 600,000.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer, the NDC disclosed that the NDC projections consistently surpass the Electoral Commission’s.
“We think that the 623,000 that they are taking was just on a lower side because looking at what happened in 2023 at least we are looking at the region from 700 to 800, 000 to be captured. It appears our projection is always superior to what they project,” Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer.
Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer said the projections of the EC tickled the party and caused laughter during an IPAC meeting. This is because the party felt the EC did not fully understand the parameters they were dealing with.
“So when they said that they were looking at 623, 000 we laughed at IPAC and said that these guys don’t know what they are talking about. Because if you look at the numbers from 2021 up till 2023 they didn’t do any registration,” he said on Eyewitness News.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has announced that it has registered 522,025 new voters since the exercise started early this month. The ongoing limited voter registration commenced on May 7 and will end on May 27, but with barely 4 days to end, the EC is almost nearing its target of 623,000.
