The Volta separatists group army has today the 14th of October 2020 sent a strong warning reiterating their 4,000 – man army dragons shall reclaim their motherland in the next 21 days.
This army who calls themselves the dragons of western Togoland military sent this warning to the Volta Regional minister Archibald Yao Letsa, energy minister John Peter Amewu and the MP for north Tongu, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa via a video. In the video, masked gun-wielding men in black shirts on dark-green trousers standing behind their flag with a single voice commanding said
“About 4,000 Dragons are trained in a nearby country; they’re ready to enter into their motherland, Western Togoland. They’re not rebels, they’re not militants. They’re well-, fully-trained soldiers, so, nobody should be afraid of them. They’re coming to deliver their motherland, Togoland”.
The commander indicated that “They’ve been a slave to the Gold Coast, Ghana for years; they are not militants. What’s annoying them is that the people of Gold Coast, Ghana, are arresting their people for no reason. They’re shooting people and several people have been injured. About 4,000-plus persons have been trained in another country to rescue their motherland”. He further appealed to the chiefs and traditional leaders not to take bribes from any person and quizzed “those of you chiefs claiming not to be part of this movement, when our independence come, can you endure it? The dragons are coming”.
“We’re giving you, John Peter Amewu, Archibald Letsa Yao, Okudzeto Ablakwa, prior notice. The Dragons, together with Gorillas, will enter the land after 21 days to claim the state. The Gorillas, together with Dragons, are merging to deliver their motherland, Western Togoland.” The group added.
The group’s first attack was on Friday, 25 September 2020, the secessionists seized two police stations, took two police vehicles and the officers hostage, broke into the armouries and stole many weapons after blocking major entry and exit roads in the Volta Region. Subsequently the group burnt two buses at the Ho STC yard on Tuesday, 29 September 2020.
However two week ago the leader of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), Mr Charles Kormi Kudzordzi, popularly called Papavi, posted a video denying any involvement whatsoever of the recent violence staged by people purporting to be Western Togolanders.
In the video Papavi said
“I have made myself available to the police and to the security agencies on several occasions, anytime they wanted me I went there, we had a discussion and then I came home.”
He also indicated that he has, on two occasions, written letters to the president of Ghana to have them sit down and have this matter discussed at a round table conference but no attention has been given to the letters.
Papavi later warned that, “Ghana should intensify its level of investigations against people who do things and not just suspect and arrest people.”
