Oscar De La Hoya hospitalized with Covid-19 days before his return to the boxing ring

Retired boxer, Oscar De La Hoya will miss his much anticipated return to the boxing ring after he was hospitalized with covid-19.

De Lay Hoya, caught covid-19 despite being fully vaccinated against the virus and in a social media post on September 3, 2021, announced that his plan to return to the ring will be put on hold.

“Preparing for this comeback has been everything to me over the last months, & I want to thank everyone for their tremendous support,” De La Hoya wrote on Twitter.

“I am currently in the hospital getting treatment and am confident I will be back in the ring before the year is up. God bless everyone and stay safe.”

The ‘Golden Boy’ Oscar De La Hoya’s comeback fight against Vitor Belfort was scheduled to take place on September 11 in Los Angeles. However, Vitor Belfort has now been scheduled to fight Evander Holyfield on the said date.

De La Hoya, 48, is a 10-time world champion in six different weight classes and he was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014.
