Young Democrats of the National Democratic Congress have endorsed former President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the party’s Presidential primaries.
With less than 48 hours for the NDC to decide on who leads the party for the 2020 general elections, supporters of the various candidates have intensified their campaigns to woo delegates into voting for their favourites.
All seven candidates fighting for the flagbearer position of the NDC are John Mahama, Joshua Alabi, Alban Bagbin, Sylvester Mensah, Ekow Spio-Garbrah, Goosie Tanoh and Nurudeen Idrissu.
The Young Democrats in a statement signed by their convener, Eric Nii Odartey Lamptey are requesting delegates to vote “massively for former President John Dramani Mahama on 23rd February, 2019 to restore hope, stability, development and victory”.
They project Mahama as the most marketable among the rest of the candidates and the only person who is capable of wrestling power from the NPP in the 2020 elections.
“After critical observation on all seven aspirants, considering their strength, weakness, leadership and capacity to win 2020, Young Democrats can authoritatively say that, if the aim is to return the NDC back to the Flagstaff House in January 2021, then the party’s choice of a candidate into the general election is HE former President John Dramani Mahama,” the group stated.
According to the Young Democrats, “Governance requires experience, sturdy hands, maturity, cool head, vision, a unifier and an accommodating figure. These are things the former President have in abundance and stands tall as compared to his fellow competitors.”
The group further called on party members to avoid violence during and after the election.
YOUNG DEMOCRATS GROUP ENDORSES JOHN MAHAMA
For immediate release
20th February, 2019
VOTE MASSIVELY FOR H.E FORMER PRESIDENT JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA ON 23RD FEBRUARY, 2019 TO RESTORE HOPE, STABILITY, DEVELOPMENT AND VICTORY.
In 72hours from now, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the largest opposition party in Ghana will go to the polls to elect a flag bearer to lead it into the general elections next year 7th December, 2020.
After critical observation on all seven aspirants, considering their strength, weakness, leadership and capacity to win 2020, Young Democrats can authoritatively say that, if the aim is to return the NDC back to the Flag Staff House on January 2021, then the party’s choice of a candidate into the general election is HE former President John Dramani Mahama.
This conclusion has become necessary after series of surveys, interviews and personal interactions we have held with most delegates of the party in all 275 constituencies and discerning Ghanaian who want to change the NPP government.
Governance requires experience, sturdy hands, maturity, cool head, vision, a unifier and an accommodating figure. These are things the former President have in abundance and stands tall as compared to his fellow competitors.
The wind blowing is refreshing. The delegates have made up their minds and they are willing to rally behind the former leader to victory come 2020.
No one runs against the wind. The mantle is on him and we add our voice to the deafening sound calling the former leader to stage a comeback and also rescue not only the party, but the entire nation from the current stagnation, family, friends and cronies government, clueless leadership, total insecurity and retrogression in the life of the 62year old country saddled with corruption, unnecessary drain on the public purse, collapsing economy, backwardness and acts of international disgrace under an insensitive government of the NPP.
Young Democrats by this release urge delegates to give the former leader a resounding victory to pave way for the big show in the general elections later next year.
Having said that, we use this medium to congratulate all aspirants for the bravery and spirited fight they have all put up so far. If not for anything at all, you have all in diverse ways helped deepen our internal democratic credentials and set a new standard for future direction on leadership. You have also helped to energise the base as you crisscross this nation with your various messages to delegates and indeed the party.
We equally use this medium to call on all stakeholders to be mindful of the big show after 23rd February, 2019. By this, all supporters, NEC, election officials, security and indeed voters should endeavor to avoid tensions that won’t add or change much before, during or after the polls.
We pray for a peaceful election and a united front soon after Mr. John Mahama has been officially declared the winner of the polls on Saturday to set the stage for the comeback of the NDC into government on 7th January, 2021.
Thank you
Signed
Eric Nii Odartey Lamptey(Niibinii)
