The fire which lasted for several hours completely razed down an [ads1]apartment killing one person and leaving scores of occupants helpless.
Speaking to the Awake News’ Adam Naporo, the Northern Regional Chief Assistant of the Ghana Fire Service, Mr Godwin Dannali admitted that the fires office could not get to the fire scene on time said due to the deplorable nature of the road.
He said personnel from the Sagnarigu District Assembly were first deployed to the scene to fight the fire but the situation was out of control prompting the station to call for reinforcement from Tamale Metro Fire and the police.
Mr Dannali said the burnt building has six apartments with thirteen rooms.
According to him the cause of the fire is yet to be identified but signs at pointing at possible electrical faults following the inconsistent power interruption in the area.
Mr. Dannali lamented that it was difficult fighting the fire due to the complete closure of the varanda with burglarproof.
He, therefore, advised the general public to always consider personal safety before wielding veranda with metallic objects urging the public to include exit gate at homes and commercial building for the purposes of emergency.
He also called for the reconsideration of the use Asian style of ceiling rooms.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of the victim was taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue.
