Ofosu Ampofo, Sammy Gyamfi charged for kidnapping

The Attorney General is to determine the prosecution of Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and two other members of National Democratic Congress (NDC) on charges of conspiracy to kidnap and threat to harm.

The NDC National Chairman was caught on an audio tape in alleged machinations to attack the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and Chairman of Ghana’s Peace Council.

Ofosu Ampofo had denied the content on the audio when he was invited by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police, holding the stance that it had been doctored.

Samuel Gyamfi and Kweku Boahen, NDC National Communication Chairman and Deputy respectively, who were also invited by the CID on some statements they had made in view of the alleged audio, had also been charged on the same counts.

The trio had denied the contents on the leaked audio which was first aired on Oman FM, a pro-government private radio station in the nation’s capital.

The CID had, consequently, referred the docket on the charges it had slapped on the three NDC National Executives to the office of the Attorney General for determination and subsequent court prosecution.

Views on the matter had been divergent when Awake News spoke with the public. Whilst one faction described the move as positive and so demanded the CID to follow same process to get all other Ghanaians heard on audio allegedly plotting evil charged for court, others rubbished the move, describing it as a political vendetta.
