The lawyer of the students who just completed Colleges of education and the first ever to take part in the maiden Teacher Licensure Examinations, lawyer Elikplim disclosed this after a court hearing.
We (lawyer Elikplim and newly trained teachers) were going to move our application for injunction but NTC pleaded with the court for time so that they can file their response.
The NTC lawyer said they respect the application we have filed and once the application is pending, they cannot and are not supposed do anything.
Though the exam has been written, marking, grading, licensing and postings are on hold.
Until the application for interim injunction is held, we will still remain home because they would not or cannot post.
The lawyer (NTC)has assured that we are on good grounds.
It’s a matter of patience. Coming to Court is all about patience. Lawyer Elikplim added.
After Tuesday’s hearing, lawyer Elikplim explained the legality of the whole process and encouraged newly trained teachers not to fear but rather exercise patience.
NTC is not going to post anybody based on the license.
They may but he case we have filed and that is not allowed under the constitution. Once the case is filed, they have to wait for the case to be decided, and then go back to correct . Let’s remain patient and see what happens on October 25.
Even, they are now going to draft the L.I , lay it before Parliament ( Parliament is not even there. it’s on break) for (21) days , and then gazette it. Time is not on their side so let’s remain calm.”
The first ever Teacher Licensure Examination kicked start from 10th to 12th September this year to assess teachers in Essential skills, Literacy and Numeracy in order to qualify a teacher to own a license to teach in the country. This decision by the National Teaching Council (NTC) did not go down well with trainees who thought otherwise to pursue the case in court, calling it unconstitutional.
The next hearing of the case at the Accra High Court will be on the 25th of October, 2018.
