No youth should endorse Haruna’s mentality for approving Ofori-Atta – Elikem Kotoko

Elikem Kotoko and Haruna Iddrisu

A member of the National Communication Team of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC,  Elikem Kotoko has reacted to Haruna Iddrisu’s reason for the approval of Finance Minister nominee Ken Ofori-Atta.

It would be recalled that on 29th March, 2021, on the floor of parliament, the minority leader Haruna Iddrisu explained that based on how Ken Ofori-Atta messed up the economy, he must shoulder the blame, hence his approval.

Due to this logic, the young maverick politician took to his office Facebook handle and lamented the irrationality of the reason. He said, “Ken Ofori-Atta messed up the economy therefore we should let him continue to mess it up more so Ghanaians suffer for it to translate into votes in our favor. Letting him inherit his mess”.

“Really, where from this logic”? He quizzed.

“Are we not Ghanaians ourselves and do we have the slightest idea the number of our own people who are equally suffering, will continue to suffer and those who will even lose their lives. Do we have any idea what people are really going through? We had a DIAMOND opportunity to frustrate this thieving gang and we are doing “karigbegbe” with it!” He noted.

What then does the discerning citizens think of us, do we really have the nation at heart? Even if this is the actual case/reason, must it be part of public communication? He again quizzed.

Explaining why he is not in support of the decision, he emphasized “this is really absurd and no youth who cares about his future should endorse such mentality. Indeed this is part of the choice between LEADERSHIP and POLITICS. We can’t always agree on all things and I disagree with any theory propounded on the back of this, to let Ken Ofori-Atta sail through”.

He concluded by calling on his party MPs to turn a new leaf, stating that “we ought to realise that our chances will be brightest if our representatives in/at the legislature give their counterparts a tough time in the interest of Ghanaians”.
