NO MALICE INTENDED: AS AKUFO ADDO GOVERNMENT COMPLETES TWO YEARS, THE WHOLE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO UNDERGO RADICAL SURGERY.
Dear President Akufo-Addo,
It is two years since you assumed office. Your party can surely point to few achievements including the Ghc 50 billion borrowed within the period, the double track system etc. But actual accomplishments remain very low. Against the scale and magnitude of what is required to catapult Ghana into the rank of the first powers on within our lifetime, the effort is frustratingly half hearted and the pace of the so called change frightfully slow.
Sir, this letter is not intended to ridicule you or your government’s policies, but to just bring forward certain aspects that I felt needed to be spoken about.
Sir, it seems you have a narrow definition of the term “corruption”. Hope you know that in addition to graft, vote rigging, nepotism are also forms of corruption. Corruption in your government is becoming alarming and deeply worrying.
Sir, from the very beginning, your Presidency has been damning the consequences of clanicizing and ethnicizing your government with the appointment of your cousins, nephews, daughters, step daughters, in-laws and ex-wives without recourse to our governance ethics and the constitution your swore to uphold and protect in totality thereby undermining our governance ethics and conventions.
Sadly, Mr President doesn’t pretend about your nepotism. You care less about what Ghanaians think of your government. You are resolute in your pursuit of your family and in-laws government.
Sir, your clan rule agenda is against the principle of the unitary and national character captured explicitly in the 1992 constitution. Mr President, your actions so far portray you as an unpatriotic bluster, an ethic potentate who should never have governed a multiethnic nation like Ghana.
Why is Mr President protecting officials of his administration openly indicted for corruption? What is Mr President trying to conceal by always clearing corrupt officials of his administration.
Why is Mr President vehemently opposed to any form of investigation into corrupt deal by his officials including the $2.25 billion bond, the Kelni GVG, the Cash for Seat, the Bost case, the $12 million Oslogate etc. Is it true that investigations into these scandals will expose the alleged involvement of the President, his Vice and some individuals close to the President.
Mr President, Ghanaians are still struggling to understand why their president who described himself as incorruptible, and prides himself as fighting corruption will continue to provide official cover for his officials indicted of corruption. Why their President who accused his predecessor of running a family and friends government when he had only one family member in his government, will appoint over 60 family members into his administration apart from his in-laws, in-laws of his Vice, and his ex-wives.
Mr President, with eyes full of hope and desire based on the false allegations you levelled against your predecessor plus the promises you made, Ghanaians elected you as the President of our country. What was the mandate given to your government. Was it to run a massive propaganda campaign which you spend millions of our taxes to defend your lies and project your failed government? It was a hopeful mandate given to you by Ghanaians because of the assurances and promises you gave them. You promised Ghanaians a corruption free government, promised the youth employment. When the results were declared everyone was happy , except for the NDC party. Many claimed the victory as the victory of progress. Constituencies opened bank accounts for their $1 million, chiefs released lands for the one district one factory, villages prepared for their dams etc etc. You are yet to fulfill these fantastic promises.
What disappointed Ghanaians the most was your government’s inaction in the field of education. How you hastily implemented the free secondary school policy and the challenges authorities in our schools are going through. The double track system which has disorganized the education calendar.
Mr President, under your watch Ghana dropped in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index latest report
You inherited a Ghana rated the best in West Africa in terms of human development index. Under your watch Ghana has lost that enviable position
You inherited a cedi rated the second strongest currency in the auberegion. Under your watch, the Cedi is rated the weakest currency in West Africa.
Mr President, you’ve borrowed more than Ghc 50 billion within two years but has not built a single room.
Mr President, I write to you with the highest sense of humility and respect for your exalted office. Lack of democratic ethos is now the blight of your Presidency. Ghanaians voted for democratic ethos, strong institutions and the change you vowed to give them.
Ghanaians did not vote for blame game, intimidation, victimisation, persecution and harassment, which have become the hallmarks of your administration since inception. Your recent attack on Civil Society Organizations is unacceptable, use of state institutions to harass and intimidate your political opponents is undermining our democracy.
Mr President, God and Ghanaians will decide your second term bid in 2020 and no amount of brute force, compromise and scientific rigging aided by your allies at the EC can stop God and Ghanaians from deciding their future afresh from 2020.
Thank You Mr President
Long live Ghana!
Long live all progressives !
Long live Africa!
