The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on the government to heighten security at the borders of Ghana following the jailbreak in Nigeria where over 240 prisoners escaped.
The legislator said evidence suggests a number of the jailbreakers head toward the direction of Ghana.
Mr. Ablakwa further cited how nine Nigeria fugitive jailbreakers were arrested by the Ada District Police Command in Ghana in April this year after the deserters managed to outwit border authorities.
“Evidence suggests a number of these fugitives always head in our direction. Recall in April this year some 9 alleged Nigerian jail breakers were arrested in Ada after they somehow managed to outwit border authorities”.
The nine fugitive jailbreakers arrested at Ada Foah lorry station, includes a female, Emmanuel Obinnah Chiedozie, 27; Steve Eyenuku, 33; Enebeli Lucky, 29; Yommi Usmah, 29; Kelli Ekureni, 33; Freedom Yusuf, 25; Obi Onuora, 38; Patrick Chanar, 47, and Bless Eyenuku, 25.
Items found on them comprised passports, ID cards, personal belongings, 1,460 Naira, GH¢2,053, and other belongings.
Touching on the consequence in a Facebook post sighted by Awake News, Ablakwa said, “Even though Nigerian officials have requested INTERPOL assistance, it is crucial that our citizens, particularly those residing in border communities are educated on how to increase alertness and it shouldn’t be impossible to widely circulate pictures of all the former inmates of the Kogi-based Security Custodial Centre.
“We must all commit to playing our part in improving the worrying volatile security situation in the sub-region”, he added.
