The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to use its current declared majority numbers in Parliament to scrap the burdensome taxes imposed on Ghanaians by the Nana Addo-Bawumia led government.

Speaking at a press conference today Sunday, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson confirmed that following Speaker Alban Bagbin’s ruling that has declared them majority, the NDC will scrap all “nuisance taxes” (the Electronic Transfers Levy also known as E-Levy and betting taxes).

“It is indeed true that we will use our new majority numbers to benefit Ghanaians by introducing private members’ bills to remove the e-Levy to reduce the suffering of the people.

“It is also true that we will use our new majority to remove the betting tax and other nuisance taxes.

He stated that the NDC will work to protect the business community and the general public interest.

“Already, this NPP government has made Ghana a high tax regime, and that is affecting the survival of businesses and the people. We assure you that we will use our new majority to protect businesses and the people of Ghana, as we have always maintained,” the majority leader noted.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court issued an injunction for a stay of execution on Bagbin’s ruling that declared four seats vacant, making the NDC the majority.

Speaker Bagbin is expected to rule on the injunction from supreme court on Tuesday October, 22, 2024 when parliament resumes.
